The Union Baptist Church Choir is the collective name for all choirs of Union Baptist Church. In a traditional sense, this choir would be referred to as the Mass Choir or Combined Choir. It is from this massive choir that our various choirs are developed. All choirs come together to sing for special occasions. The repertoire from each choir is utilized in this choir.
Voices In Union
Voices in Union is a combination of the Senior Choir and the Grady Davis Choir--which is a living monument to Union's former pastor, Dr. Grady Davis, Sr. This choir is open to adults of any age and ministers for the three services on the first Sundays. Rehearsal is each Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The choir's vast repertoire consists of anthems, hymns, traditional gospel and contemporary gospel.
Tribe of Judah Male's Chorus
Open to all males of Union, the male chorus practices each Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The choir ministers for all services on the second Sunday. The male chorus utilizes a vast musical repertoire that includes quartet, contemporary gospel, traditional gospel, and hymns to promote the Gospel.
Women's Chorale
Imagine what it felt like after the Lord delivered the Israelites from Pharaoh's escape. After trampling through the divided Red Sea, Miriam (Moses' sister) struck her tambourine and led the nation in song. You receive this experience when the women of Union open their mouth and sing under the anointing. This choir is open to all adult females. Rehearsal is each Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. and sings for all three services on the third Sunday.
Youth Choir
Ps. 144:12 Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a place.
This choir will consist of youth ages 5 to 17 years of age. The youth will rehearse each Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. prior to the fourth Sunday of each month. The youth will render music at the 11:15 a.m. worship service each fourth Sunday.
The vision is to develop a comprehensive program to meet the spiritual and temporal needs of our young people. Our music program will consists of five broad areas of ministry made up of Discipleship, Enrichment, Service, train vocally and Biblical Study. It is our goal to help nurture our precious young people to give them the best opportunity to know God and to serve him in the world.
Diaconate Choir
This choir, composed of Deacons, Deaconess and Ministers of Union Baptist, currently sings on the fifth Sundays for all three services. This choir rehearses one to two weeks prior to the fifth Sundays. This choir is a testament of the beauty of holiness as they sing under the power and unction of the Holy Spirit. When this choir began around Christmas 2003, many of its members had never sung in a formal setting, thus proving that the leadership of Union Baptist Church is always willing, ready, and able to go the extra mile for Christ!
Praise Team
The praise team is designed to promote authentic praise and worship in the church's worship services. This ensemble is utilized to usher in the presence of the Holy Spirit for services and special events. The praise team is also involved in evangelical ministry. Membership to this ensemble is limited and done by audition and then appointment by the Minister of Music.
This ministry is intended to supplement the Education ministry of the church by training instrumentalists and vocalist in musical instruction. Private and group lessons will be provided in instrumental techniques, vocal techniques, and music theory and music technology. Furthermore, certificates will be awarded for the completion of each class that will ultimately end up in a Certificate of Church Music. These classes are also designed to educate the Union Baptist Church family as a whole pertaining to Biblical Principles of Music Ministry and the correlation of music to the Bible.
