Deacon Ordination: The Deacon Ordination of our newly elected deacons will take place TODAY at 4 p.m.
UIS Sunday Brunch: You are invited to have dinner at UIS Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The cost is $13.00. The menu is BBQ Chicken, Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Seasoned Cabbage, Glazed Carrots, Dinner Roll, Dessert, Banana Pudding and Cake.
Holy Trinity UH Church: UBC will worship with Holy Trinity United Holy church Sunday, March 21, in Greenville, NC at 3 p.m. We will depart from the church at 1 p.m. If you wish to attend, please sign up in the church office TODAY. The Women’s Chorale will render the music.
UBC Overflow Parking: Please be reminded Union Baptist Church offers overflow parking at Ellis D. Jones Funeral Home, 419 Dowd Street and First Baptist Church, 414 Cleveland Street. Free shuttle is available. If you park illegally and your vehicle is towed, UBC will not be responsible for your towing fees.
Contribution Envelopes: The 2010 envelopes are located in the hallway. Please pick up your envelopes to ensure you receive credit for your contributions. If you are unable to locate your envelopes, please check the book. Envelopes will be recycled after April 15.

Sunday School Classes: A new term of classes begins TODAY. We have classes for all ages. Pick up a brochure for more information. Books are distributed in the classes.
Music Workshop: You are invited to attend the 2010 Music Workshop at UBC on March 11 – 13. Special guests will include Steve Lawrence, former Minister of Music for T.D. Jakes and recording gospel artist, Joe Pace. Registration fees are $5.00 for active choir members, $15 for non-UBC choir members, $20 for others and onsite registration is $25. Everyone is invited to come and worship with us. TODAY is the last day to pay the $5.00 fee at the rear of the church.
Girl Scouts: The Cadette/Senior Troop #870 will be selling Girl Scout cookies after each church service TODAY at the rear of the church.
2010 Black Marriage Day: The UBC Couples Ministry will honor up to six couples who have been married for 25 years or more. Selection criteria: married for at least 25 years; at least one of the spouses must be African-American; must be nominated by someone other than themselves. Please pick up a nomination packet from the front or rear of the church. Leave your nomination form by TODAY in the church office in the designated folder located on the administrative desk. UBC Cropwalk: It's that time again to help with the Durham CROP Hunger Walk. This is an annual event, which combines fun and fundraising to raise money for hungry people throughout the world. Walkers invite friends to sponsor them with a contribution of $5, $10, $20 or more. T-shirts are $3. This event will be held March 21 at 2:30 on the campus of Duke University. Sisters of Promise: The Sisters of Promise will be collaborating with NCCU and the Habitat for Humanity of Durham to build a home for one of NCCU’s employees. Sisters of Promise invites all young ladies ages 14-18 and parents to our next meeting Thursday, March 11, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Library. East Cedar Grove Association: The East Cedar Grove Fifth District Sunday School Convention will be held March 11 at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Onslow Street at 6:45pm. The theme of the session will focus on music. Sunday school teachers, parents and church members plan to attend and encourage your students and children to attend. Samaritan Men Boys to Men Session 1 Workshop: The Samaritan Men in conjunction with other youth ministries is hosting a workshop for young men between the ages of 13 through 18, Saturday, March 13, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Topics of interest are ethics, education, morality, everyday living challenges and principles of living a Christian life as a teenager. All young men are invited. 2010 Women of Spirit Retreat: The Women of Spirit will host its 2010 retreat in Charleston, SC, August 6 - 8. We invite you to join us for a spirit-filled weekend of fellowship, worship, prayer and Christian education. Registration for UBC members only will begin Sunday, March 14, and will be open to non-members on March 28. The cost is $250 for UBC members and $275 for non-members.
A deposit is $50 for UBC members and $75 for non-members due at registration. Registration forms and more details are available at both entrances.
Family Life Conference: The planning committee for the Family Life Conference will meet on March 16at 6:30 p.m.
Basic Computer Class: If you are 55 years or older and wish to learn how to use a computer, you are invited to sign up at the rear of the church for a six-week Basic Computer Class beginning March 22. Classes will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and you must commit to the 6 weeks. Deadline to register is March 17. For more information, contact Sharlene Lee at 596-1136. Mark your calendar for March 19 at 7 p.m. The Equipped Ministry invites you to the “The WELL”, the source of the Living Water. Join us for dinner and discussion followed by a time of fellowship. Let’s dig deep into the topic of “Love, Peace and Soul”, as we discuss the book, The Shack and how we see love and relationship with God and others.
Oratorical Contest: The UBC annual Oratorical contest is March 28 at 9:30 a.m. They are looking for participants who are rising 6th – 12th graders. Parents are asked to encourage their children to participate, as public speaking is very important as they further their education. Mentors are also needed. UIS Satin Hands Campaign: If you were unable to purchase your Mary Kay Satin Hands before Christmas, the campaign will continue until July. Contact Marita Campbell at 401-3769 or Tinia Campbell at 757-537-6838. All proceeds goes to Union Independent School.

Bible Study: All evening Bible Study classes will meet in the sanctuary on March 10 in observance of the National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS. We will have our regular Family Night worship at 7 p.m. followed by a program addressing our role in combating this epidemic and ministering to those affected. Please bring a donation of non-perishable food items, which will be donated, to the CAARE Food Bank.
Young Adult Praise Team: If you are between the ages of 18 – 40 and serious about praising and worshipping God, you are invited to audition for the Young Adult Praise Team. Audition will be held on March 31 at 6:00 p.m. in the Choir Rehearsal Room. The Young Adult Praise Team will minister in song on fourth Sundays at the 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. services and the prelude for the 11:15 a.m. service.
UBC Cub Scout Pack #411: Chick-fill-A at RTP, 104 Residence Inn Blvd., Durham, NC 27713, is doing a fundraiser for UBC Cub Scout Pack #411 during the month of March. Please mention that you are supporting the Cub Pack #411, they will receive a percentage of the sales.

NC Democratic Party: If you are a female African American high school senior and would like to participate in The NC Democratic Party essay contest honoring the Late State Senator Jeanne Hopkins Lucas, you are invited to write a essay of 750 words and include an entry form to Kerra Bolton, Sr. Advisor, 220 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, 27613 by March 10. The essay should focus on a woman who has inspired your life and why. Free Dental: NC Missions of Mercy, an outreach initiative of the NC Dental Society is bringing free dental care (x-rays, cleaning, fillings and extractions) for adults to Durham March 12 and 13. They want to serve 500 patients per day at the National Guard Armory on Stadium Drive. For more information, call the Health Department at 560-7760.
NCCU: North Carolina Central University School of Education will host the 2nd Annual Education Symposium "Saving Our Children Through Focused School Interventions" on March 20. The keynote speaker is Dr. Steve Perry, CNN Education Contributor, Principal and Founder of Capital Preparatory School as featured on CNN Black in America 2. Walk To Jerusalem: 6284-That’s how many miles we’ve traveled so far in the “Walk To Jerusalem and you can still join us by signing up at the UBC website at www.unionbaptist-durham.org. Click on the picture of Jerusalem and follow the directions to sign up. Then report your weekly miles of walking, running, jogging or aerobic activity (20 minutes equals one mile) each Saturday. Harriet Tubman, Danny Glover, Florence Griffith-Joyner and Julius Caesar has something in common. They all have (or had) epilepsy. Whether famous or not, persons with epilepsy need a lot of resources, especially funding for medications, to help them overcome the challenges of epilepsy. The 4th Annual Durham Epilepsy Stroll will be held Saturday, March 27, at the School of Science and Math at 1219 Broad St. Not everyone can run a marathon, but almost everyone can stroll.
